It is that time of the year again.  Cold and flu season is upon us.  I have some facts that I would like to share with you, and I hope that they will help you to remain healthy and strong this winter.

Did You Know.....

Seasonal flu outbreaks follow a predictable pattern.  In the Hampton Roads area, we usually begin to see flu cases increase in mid-January, with the highest numbers of cases occurring in Februarey or March.  That's why area doctors recommend getting a flu shot through January.

  • A pandemic happens when a disease such as the ful occurs over a very wide geographic area, affecting a large portion of the population in that area.
  • Getting a flu shot will not give you the flu!
  • It takes 2 weeks for the flu shot to start increasing your immunity (protection).
  • Immunity from a flu shot can last between 3 to 6 months.
The fact is that Seniors and children are at HIGH RISK  for getting the flu and associated complications.  you can protect yourself from getting the flu by having a flu shot.  The flu virus changes from year to year, therefore you must have a yearly flu shot to be protected!
